14

Ethan turned 14 and had a great birthday!

Food requested: Biscuits and Gravy for breakfast and steak/fish for dinner. Cookie dough ice cream cake for dessert.

He LOVES his go pro!

And of course, all he wanted to do for his birthday party was so go snowboarding! His friend, Benson, who normally goes with them was not able to go this time :(
This guy is turning into a wonderful young man! He is so much fun to be around and we LOVE him dearly! Happy Birthday E-Daug!!!

Fish = ER

Apparently Emmaline had decided to be allergic to fish. After a couple bites her throat started to feel funny, her lips swelled and went numb and she has stabbing pains in her heart. Poor thing!

Happy Valentine's Day!

My sweet Valentine knows me too well! Who wants flowers when you can have sugar?

Ulilanis

The best thing (OK, one of the best things) about Hawaii is shaved ice! We love to have it at least one, sometimes two times a day! So when it's freezing outside, have the first snowfall of the year and CHURCH GETS CANCELED - may as well pretend you're in Hawaii and make your own snow cones! Add a little whip cream and it's absolute heaven! Yummmmm!

Results

Dr. Lendvay called with the test results. First of all - the nephrostomy tube looks great and is placed well. There is still a complete blockage from the kidney to ureter. But most importantly - Kaden's left kidney has regained some function! It's up to 50% function - enough to try the repair, which is already scheduled for March 4th. He has several kidney stones that he will try to remove at the same time. If he can't, then he'll have another surgery later to remove those. Since he has already had 2 failed pyeloplasties, they will pull a couple tricks out of the hat to hopefully make this one successful. They will take the lining from intestinal wall and wrap that around his ureter to give it ample blood supply. They will possibly take a strip from his renal pelvis and use that as a "fake" ureter.

I am feeling good about it. Nervous, but good. Kaden on the other hand, just wants his kidney out. He figures: no kidney, no pain. To him, surgeries are painful and they don't work. He doesn't want to go through another surgery just to be back where he was before. But HOPEFULLY this time it will work!!! If not, then that stinkin' kidney will have to be removed. :(
LOVE this kid!!!

Testing, testing...

Kaden is such a trooper! We were up in Spokane today having more tests run on his kidney. He had an ultrasound, mag 3 (to test kidney function) and a dye xray (to test nephrostomy function). He was all smiles - another day in the park! Isn't he the cutest?
Left kidney, right kidney and bladder:
He also got his dressing changed around his nephrostomy tube. It looks really good!
Not your ideal day, but we had a great time together nonetheless!

Basketball

Emma and Kaden playing basketball:

Man it's fun watching them! Their little personalities come out on the court and it just makes me laugh. Fun times!
